Google has released, a new Chrome extension for its productivity and cloud storage service Google Drive. It adds an “open with” option to the right-click menu, making it easier to open files with the correct desktop application right from the browser, the company. This feature is pretty handy, as until now users had to first download the file to the desktop or document folder, go to that place, and fire the right application to run the file.
Google has provided several examples of how one can utilize this new tool. For instance, one can open a PDF file with Adobe Reader or a.psd file using Adobe Photoshop from within the browser. Wake for network access hackers access in mac mac. Google hasn’t mentioned how it will deal with Microsoft Office files, but chances are that the company will use its own service to open such files instead of firing up the Office suite. But do note that it still can’t open several heavy files, such as advanced image and video editing files, 3D animation files, accounting and others.
Another handy feature is that all the changes made to the files will be synced across devices, without the need of reuploading the file. With Application Launcher, Google is trying to blend the web and desktop worlds. The feature will also work across ChromeOS, and Chrome clients for Mac OS and Windows. Furthermore, users will need to grab the updated version of Google Drive (v1.8). If you’re not seeing this feature on your Drive yet (after updating Drive and installing the extension), fret not, as Google says that it will be rolling out to more users over the new few weeks.
